Skateboard Ramp

Skateboard ramps are some of the more popular venues for skateboarders to execute the different difficult maneuvers that are involved in the sport. Skateboard ramps are essential for every level of skateboarder. These ramps should start off small for beginners and get larger with time. Pricing can be as low as $100 for a mini ramp, to several thousands of dollars for huge and elaborate setups. Alternatively, you can try your hand and building your own ramp for your yard or street (watch for traffic!).

Skateboard ramps are simply constructed, but that doesn’t mean that building one is as easy.

Skateboard ramps are easier to make if you have the right plans, you can make your own skateboard ramps. It’s inexpensive, it’s fun, and you can get various types of skateboarding ramp plans online, but you’ll need a friend to help (preferably an experienced builder).

This may be a result of the cost effectiveness of a homemade ramp. In small areas these ramps are usually fold-up models. They are great for quick use and easy storage. Skateboard ramps are also popping up in peoples backyards so that skateboarders don’t even have to leave their homes to practice.

Skateboard ramps are outdoor installations; these must be made resistant to severe changes in the weather. Skateboard ramps are made from high quality, weather treated woods. Galvanized metal copings and edge plates are rust free to ensure the longevity of every skateboard ramp.

Skateboard ramps are designed poorly they become useless sculpture. In big scale ramps poor design can become dangerous. It is the responsibility of the owner of the skateboard ramp and the users of skateboards to ensure maximum safety. Use of skateboards, Longboard , rollerblades, scooters and roller skates can be dangerous. Always wear protective gear and participate within your ability. Safety gear for use with the ramp consisted of a helmet, kneepads, wrist pads and elbow pads.

Some of the most popular styles of ramps:

Quarter Pipes. Quarter pipes have a steep transition that starts at the ground and ends at a metal rail called the coping. Use these ramps to launch your self into the air and land on the transition, or to grind and pull off stall tricks on the coping.

Half Pipes. Almost always made of wood, but can be seen in concrete, dirt, and snow for snowboarding. A half pipe consists of two quarter pipes.

Mini Ramps. A mini ramp is a like a half pipe, but much smaller usually less than 6ft high. Mini ramps can even be as small as 2-3′ high. Most small ramps are designed with beginners in mind (not too high of a fall!).

Mega Ramp. Created by famous BMX rider Mat Hoffman in 1992. It was a 21′ tall quarter pipe vert that Mat used to launch himself up into the air (by using a BMX bike modified with a lawnmower engine for a boost).

Vert Ramps. Named because they go from flat ground in the center to a vertical wall. Vert ramps are usually 10-15 feet, with six inches to three feet of vert up top. The vert at the top allows for the rider to catch more air than on a mini-ramp.
